แบบมาตรฐานนี้จัดทำขึ้นโดยกรมทางหลวงชนบท (ทช.) กระทรวงคมนาคม เพื่อใช้เป็นแนวทางในการก่อสร้างและปรับปรุงถนนลาดยางแอสฟัลต์คอนกรีต โดยมีรายละเอียดเกี่ยวกับโครงสร้างถนนที่ประกอบด้วยชั้นวัสดุต่างๆ ได้แก่ วัสดุคัดเลือก วัสดุรองพื้นทาง และวัสดุพื้นทาง ซึ่งแต่ละชั้นวัสดุจะต้องมีคุณสมบัติตามที่กำหนด เช่น ค่า CBR (California Bearing Ratio) และการบดอัดแน่นตามมาตรฐาน Modified Proctor หรือ Standard Proctor นอกจากนี้ ยังมีรายละเอียดเกี่ยวกับงานตัดดิน งานถมคันทาง รวมถึงการกำหนดความลาดชันของคันทาง (Cut Slope และ Fill Slope) ให้เหมาะสมกับความสูงของคันทางและสภาพพื้นที่ การออกแบบความหนาของชั้นโครงสร้างทางจะพิจารณาจากปริมาณจราจรและร้อยละของรถบรรทุกหนัก เพื่อให้ถนนสามารถรองรับการใช้งานได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพและมีอายุการใช้งานตามที่กำหนดไว้ (7 ปี หรือ 10 ปี) การก่อสร้างผิวจราจรลาดยางแบบแอสฟัลต์คอนกรีตต้องเป็นไปตามมาตรฐาน มทบ. 256
แบบมาตรฐานนี้ยังครอบคลุมถึงรายละเอียดอื่นๆ เช่น การปลูกหญ้าตามแบบ ปช-102 (ถ้ามี) การปรับเกลี่ยและบดอัดพื้นทางเดิม รวมถึงข้อกำหนดเกี่ยวกับร่องน้ำข้างทาง โดยความสูงของร่องน้ำจะต้องเป็นไปตามที่กำหนด ทั้งนี้ การปรับแก้ไขรายละเอียดต่างๆ ในแบบมาตรฐานนี้จะต้องได้รับความเห็นชอบจากผู้ควบคุมงาน เพื่อให้การก่อสร้างเป็นไปตามมาตรฐานและเหมาะสมกับสภาพพื้นที่

This standard design is prepared by the Department of Rural Roads (DRR), Ministry of Transport, to provide guidelines for the construction and improvement of asphalt concrete roads. It details the road structure consisting of various material layers, including selected material, subbase material, and base material. Each layer must meet specific properties such as CBR (California Bearing Ratio) values and compaction standards (Modified Proctor or Standard Proctor). Furthermore, it covers earthwork, embankment construction, and slope specifications (Cut Slope and Fill Slope) appropriate for embankment height and terrain. The design of pavement layer thickness considers traffic volume and the percentage of heavy trucks to ensure efficient road performance and the specified service life (7 or 10 years). The asphalt concrete pavement construction must comply with MTb. 256 standards.
This standard design also includes details such as grass planting according to DRR-102 (if applicable), leveling and compaction of existing roadbeds, and specifications for roadside ditches, with required ditch heights. Any modifications to the standard design details must be approved by the site supervisor to ensure construction meets standards and is suitable for the terrain.
